Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about ScarScript — Pakistan's first high-performance compiled programming language, built by Scarfaze.
General
What is ScarScript?
ScarScript is a statically typed programming language that compiles to Go. It is developed by Scarfaze and uses readable syntax with declarations such as val, mut, and const.
Getting Started
How do I install ScarScript?
Download the release binary for your operating system from the ScarScript GitHub Releases page. You can also install the CLI from source with Go using go install github.com/ScarfazeCompany/scar-script/cmd/scar@latest. Run scar version to check the installation.
Do I need Go to run ScarScript programs?
Yes. The scar run and scar build commands use the Go toolchain to execute generated code or create a native executable. Install Go and make sure the go command is available on your PATH.
Can I try ScarScript without installing it?
Yes. Open the ScarScript Playground on this website to try code in your browser and inspect generated Go source. The Playground runs its compiler and runtime in the browser.
Language
What is the difference between val, mut, and const?
Use val for an immutable binding, mut for a binding that needs reassignment, and const for a compile-time constant. ScarScript checks invalid reassignment at compile time.
